The Palm Course - nicknamed ‘The Cobra’ for its testing and challenging layout, The Palm Course is 6,992-yards from the black tees, which is well known to golfers in Malaysia and the region. One of its holes, the 172-yards Par 3 second hole, is rated the Most Difficult Hole in Malaysia.

Acknowledged by the coolness of the mature palm trees and finely groomed fairways and Tifeagle greens, a game of golf at the memorable Palm Course is both satisfying and rewarding, whatever the outcome of your confrontation with The Cobra.

Palm #01 PAR 4

Most players prefer taking the dogleg right out of play by simply carrying over the tall trees with a long drive and landing with just a wedge to the green. Failing to avoid the trees though would be a disaster as the rough in the ravine is almost unplayable. The right side and back of the green is unplayable rough and should be avoided at all costs. The green slopes from back to front and extremely slippery when putting downhill.

Palm #02 PAR 3

The signature hole of the course, this par 3 is extremely challenging due to the demanding tee shot required and the large two-tier green which will punish the player for any ball not landing onto the correct level. The front level is very narrow and any ball short of the green will find two deep bunkers waiting on both sides. The drastic slope fronting the green will send a ball hit short rolling back into unplayable rough.

Palm #03 PAR 5

A long drive downhill from the very elevated tee to a wide fairway will provide the opportunity for the long hitter to try for this long Par-5 green in two. A wide drain running across the fairway 100 yards from the green however may deter many from trying. The ball must land on the correct level of this elevated two-tier green to have any chance of a birdie.

Palm #04 PAR 4

A strong draw downhill across the water from the tee will set up a very short approach to the elevated green. A good chip and the birdie chance will be there.
Very long hitters may be tempted to go for it with a sharp draw but the water that runs parallel with the green on the left advise caution. Two small deep bunkers on the right stand sentry

Palm #05 PAR 3

The narrow green surrounded by 3 deep bunkers looks forbidding from the elevated tee in this downhill Par 3 hole. The left side of the green falls sharply away with water waiting for a badly pulled shot. Any errant shot will have to contend with three large deep bunkers on both sides.

Palm #06 PAR 4

A very daunting driving hole requiring an accurate shot to a small plateau and a precise club selection to land the ball onto the correct level of a green with pronounced undulations. Nicknamed ‘The Stadium Hole’ because of a wide and deep hollow heavily forested with palm trees on the left flank – entering it could be a disaster. The pronounced back-to-front slope of the green can be demanding.

Palm #07 PAR 4

A very demanding driving hole that plays uphill all the way to an elevated green. Two bunkers flank the tight fairway from which getting onto the blind putting surface will require astute concentration and skill. Bunkers on both sides of the green guard the front. The green slopes pronouncedly from back to front and a birdie here is cause for celebration.

Palm #08 PAR 5

A straightforward scotring hole with a very elevated tee making it reachable in 2 for most long hitters. Avoiding the many large fairway bunkers on either side is the key. Over the large green is a small catchment area but beyond that is a swampy defile. A par here is considered pedestrian.

Palm #09 PAR 4

A very long hole with a narrow fairway flanked by several bunkers and palm trees and OB on the right waiting to punish any wayward tee shot makes this a very daunting driving hole indeed. Added to this, the green is situated atop a hill and the approach shot would require at least a long iron for many on this Par-4 hole. Most players however, will get onto the 2-tier green in 3 strokes. Landing the ball on the correct level on this acute 2-tiered green is imperative. A birdie here is rare.

Palm #10 PAR 4

A relatively straightforward hole with a little brook that runs across the front of the small green thus making that regulation 2-on a real challenge. A pond lies adjacent to the right side of the green. Most drives will leave only a mid-iron to the green which is well protected by water. The green is relatively level but over shooting it would require a testy chip up a steep incline back onto the green for that stressful par save.

Palm #11 PAR 4

The challenge lies with the drive from the tee on this sharp dogleg-right hole. The fairway bunker is very much in play for most players and should be avoided at all cost. Any wayward tee shot may be punished with OB and trees on the left and right. A large bunker effectively protects the 2-tier green with gentle undulations.

Palm #12 PAR 3

The gentle rise of the green is not obvious from the tee and many end up short and into the front bunker on this interesting Par 3 hole. A large green side bunker on the right catches those who avoid confronting the front bunker. The undulations on the large green are quite pronounced and putting is a premium.

Palm #13 PAR 5

A very tempting hole to go for the green in two on this downhill driving Par 5. The tee shot needs to be on the left to afford a sight to the island green from the trees on the right. Avoiding the two fairway bunkers on the left is key. The green has two gentle tiers but care should be exercised if the ball is on the wrong level. An easy par hole if played conventionally.

Palm #14 PAR 4

Avoiding the fairway bunker on the right from the tee is the key on this long uphill hole. Getting onto the very elevated green will be the main concern for most players as any ball short will see it trundling back. It will require a very deft and precise chip from there to get up and down to save par. Not an easy hole to birdie because of the long and blind 2nd shot required.

Palm #15 PAR 4

An innocuous and tricky par 4 hole which has claimed many victims in the past when the pin is set close to the front. After driving past the fairway bunker, the next shot requires only a short iron onto an undulating green well protected by water in front and two large bunkers on the right. It is particularly difficult to access the pin when it is placed at the raised back left corner.

Palm #16 PAR 3

The surface of this elevated green can hardly be seen from the tee and astute clubbing is necessary to get the ball onto the correct plane of this drastic 2-tier green. Deep bunkers stand guard at both sides of the large green which slopes from back to front.

Palm #17 PAR 4

But for a line of trees and water protecting the green, this very sharp dogleg left hole will tempt the long hitter to go for it. The landing zone over the body of water is very tight and with OB just beyond, many will choose to drive to the spacious right side and hit an easy approach shot to the narrow green for a possible birdie.

Palm #18 PAR 5

A very exciting finishing hole and reachable in two for the long hitters. The average player should drive the ball favouring the left side of the fairway bunker. A very good fairway shot again favouring the left side is required to land the ball within 150 yards or less to the well guarded large green. The undulating green is well protected by bunkers and a stand of palm trees on the right might just pose some problems for some.
