Founded in 1984, Saujana Golf & Country Club (SGCC) offers two exquisite and scenic championship golf courses, namely the ‘Palm Course’ and ‘Bunga Raya Course. Designed for championship play by renowned golf course architect, Ronald Fream Design Group, based in California, USA, SGCC has constantly given the status of ‘Malaysia’s Number 1 Golf Club’ and numbered among the ‘100 Best Golf Resorts’ in the world. The Courses sprawl over 400 acres of undulating terrain of what was formerly a well-kept oil palm estate. Great care is taken to preserve the beauty of the flora and natural land features and testimony of this is the wide range of fauna that is visible to the observant golfer.
Other golfing facilities include a 300-yard driving range, and an extensive Short Game Practice Complex which allows for bunker practice as well as short game practice of up to 80 yards. The above facilities make SGCC the complete and comprehensive golfing destination for both professional and top amateur golfers. Social golfers will enjoy the challenges that face them on every hole.
The Club Facilities include friendly service at the F&B outlet at the Golfers Terrace, where a wide array of delicious local fare is served. Other sports facilities include an Olympic-sized swimming pool and two tennis courts, and a sauna-bath facility. Located close by are the prestigious hotels - The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Palm Course
NIcknamed ‘The Cobra’ the course has a testing and challenging layout. Playing 6,992 yards from the back tees, the Course has earned its reputation as the venue of the Malaysian Open, which later became a co-sanctioned event of the Asian Tour and the European Tour. Lining the well-groomed Bermuda-turfed fairways are mature oil palms, and the Tifteagle greens are a pleasure and a challenge to putt on. The 172-yard Par-3 second hole is the signature hole and has been rated ‘Most Difficult Hole’ in Malaysia. Every hole is memorable and posting a good score will be a satisfying reward for any golfer.
Bunga Raya Course
Named after Malaysia’s national flower, the hibiscus, the course has been given another nickname - The Crocodile - by none other than one of our old touring professionals, Mr Lee Westwood. The beautiful and rolling landscape together with several water catchment ponds bring a different challenge to the golfer. Playing 7,034 yards from the back tees, after a recent course renovation done by E&G Parslow, the Course has open Bermuda fairways and Miniverde Greens. The Par-3 17-hole, which plays over an expanse of water, is the signature hole. A good score there and another on the finishing 18th will certainly make for a great round of golf.
Host Venues of Major Tournaments
Both championship courses have been endorsed by the R&A as suitable host venues for international golf tournaments. To date SGCC has hosted nine Malaysian Opens and three Maybank Championships. Three times the Final Qualifying Asia for The Open Championship has been held at SGCC. In 2002, SGCC hosted at the same time and using both golf courses the World Amateur Golf Team Championship which comprise the Eisenhower Trophy and the Espirito Santo Trophy. Other events held here include Kosaido Malaysian Ladies Open (3 times) and the Kuala Lumpur Open (once).
